World Wildlife Day

2025-03-03 Mon

World Wildlife Day is observed every year on 03 March to highlight the urgent need for wildlife conservation, advocate for biodiversity protection, and encourage people to participate in conservation efforts.

In 1999, India Post issued a commemorative postage stamps featuring the Asiatic Lions. Also known as the Indian Lion, this species is now restricted to the Gir Forest in Gujarat.

Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting Sasangir, a wildlife sanctuary in Gujarat, to inaugurate a new veterinary hospital expected to provide critical care for the Asiatic lions. At Singh Sadan, the Prime Minister will chair a meeting of the National Board for Wildlife (NBWL), where national wildlife conservation issues will be addressed.
