The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) is a maritime law enforcement agency which conducts search and rescue operations within India's territorial waters.It was started on 1 February 1977 and formally established on 18 August 1978 under the Coast Guard Act of 1978. It operates under the Ministry of Defence.
