Commemorative Postage Stamp featuring Saint Veer Meghmaya
2025-02-03 Mon
Veer Meghmaya, also known as Megh Maya or Megh Rishi, was born into a Dalit Vankar family near Dholka in Ranodo village.During the reign of King Siddhraj Jai Singh Solanki in Gujarat, the people faced severe water scarcity. Although the king constructed the Sahastralinga Sarovar to address this problem, it proved ineffective. An astrologer revealed that the water shortage arose from the curse placed on the king, predicting that water would return only when a man with 32 virtuous qualities sacrificed himself in the lake.
Veer Meghmaya sacrificed his life to protect the oppressed and fight for social equality.
India Post released a postage stamp worth Rs 5 featuring Veer Meghmaya on December 31, 2024.
