India celebrates Army Day on January 15th to honour General KM Cariappa, the first Indian Commander-in-Chief in 1949.In 1949, General (later Field Marshal) KM Cariappa became the first Indian Commander-in-Chief of Independent India, succeeding General Sir FRR Bucher, the final British Commander-in-Chief, as the commander of the Indian Army.
This day salutes the bravery and sacrifices of our soldiers.
The Indian Postal Department issued the 75th year of the Indian Army Day Stamp in 2023 to commemorate the conclusion of the 75th year of Indian Army Day.
