Birth Anniversary of Surdas

On 9th December 1484, Surdas a 16th-century blind Hindu devotional poet and singer, who was known for his works written in praise of Krishna was born.His compositions captured his devotion to Krishna. Most of his poems were written in the Braj language, while some were written in other dialects of Medieval Hindi, like Awadhi.
India Post issued a commemorative postage stamp on Surdas in 1952 as a part of its Saints and Poets series.
