On 26th November 1949, India adopted its Constitution, the date was chosen to spread awareness regarding the importance of the Constitution alongside the thoughts and ideas of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar.

However, it came into effect on January 26, 1950. The date was decided to honor the Public declaration of Purna Swaraj.

India Post issued a Souvenir Sheet on 26th January 2020, to commemorate 'Samvidham Divas'
