Discovery of Rosetta Stone

The Rosetta Stone, inscribed in 196 BC, was rediscovered in 1799 by French soldiers in Egypt. It is now housed in the British Museum in London.The Egyptian stone stele contains three versions of a decree: in Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics, Demotic, and Ancient Greek. The Greek version was translated into English in 1803, leading to the decipherment of Egyptian hieroglyphics by Jean-François Champollion in 1822.
