Shah Jahan, also known as Prince Khurram, was the fifth Mughal Emperor. He is best known for the monument ‘Taj Mahal’, which he built in memory of his beloved wife ‘Mumtaz Mahal’.Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan issued this silver rupee, 11.32g, in the Hijri year 1038, minted at Akbarabad to commemorate the 1st anniversary of his coronation. In the Hijri year 1038, he changed the name of Agra to Akbarabad.
The obverse of the silver rupee features Shahada within an ornate pentagonal cartouche. The reverse features the name and title of Shah Jahan, Hijri year 1038 and RY 2.
