On This Day in 1931, Engineer Heitor da Silva Costa built , 'Christ the Redeemer' statue, which stands 30 meters high (98 ft) on top of Mount Corcovado and overlooks Rio de Janeiro.

It is a statue of Jesus Christ that was originally proposed by Princess Isabel in 1888 to symbolize his divine nature and Paschal Mystery, was voted among the Seven Wonders of World in 2007.
