Copper Unit of Indo-Scythian King Vonones

King Vonones, an Indo-Scythian king, ruled between 75–57 BCE. After sitting on the throne, he extended his kingdom as far as Taxila in north India. Vonones was the first rival of Indo-Scythian monarch Maues, who claimed the title of King of the Kings.This Square copper unit issued by Vonones weighs around 7.70g. The Obverse features a Hercules standing with a club, the Greek legend “BASILEOS BASILEON MEGALOU ONONOU. The reverse features Athena standing left with a spear and shield in one hand and raising the other hand, with Kharosthi legend.
