GOLD DINAR OF CHANDRAGUPTA II

Chandragupta II of the Gupta Empire was one of the most powerful Rulers of ancient India. He is also known by his title Vikramaditya.This ‘Archer’ type gold dinar of Chandra Gupta II weighing 7.95g is estimated for Rs. 1, 40,000 in an upcoming auction at Ahmedabad. On the obverse, a nimbate king is standing wearing a dhoti, holding an arrow on his right and a strung bow on his left. There is a Garuda standard to his right and a Brahmi legend ‘Chandra’ below the arm holding the bow. The Brahmi legend 'Deva Sri Maharaja...' can be seen along the margin.
On the reverse, it bears Goddess Lakshmi seated cross-legged on a lotus, holding a lotus in one hand and a noose in the other; a Tamgha can be seen to her right and a Brahmi legend ‘Sri Vikramah’ to her left.
