Adivarha, is considered the third incarnation of Lord Vishnu amongst the Dasavataras, portrayed as a Boar with a human body. It is said that, he used his tusks to lift the earth out of the cosmic ocean to save it from the demon Hiranyaksha. Adivaraha, is revered as a symbol of strength and protection.

Gujara-Pratihara, the dynasty who ruled the Nothern-India during the medieval period, issued silver drachm featuring Boar or Varaha. The famous Khajuraho temple built by this dynasty is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

King Bhoja I, of Gujara Prathihara, issued this silver drachma during his rule. The obverse features Boar or Varaha incarnation of Lord Vishnu facing right, holding the earth on his tusks. The reverse is inscribed with Sharada script ‘Srimadadivaraha’.
