Amethyst is purple quartz. Amethyst is known as the February birthstone. The name derived from the Ancient Greek amethystos, which means “a remedy against drunkenness”. Amethyst is the second most mineral found in Earth's Crust.Amethyst was found in large deposit in Brazil. It is one of the most popular purple gemstones. In Africa, Zambia’s Kariba mine is one of the world's largest amethyst producers. The Birthstone zodiac sign is Aquarius.
