Gujarat is the largest producer of cotton in India.Cowasji Nanabhai Davar started India's first cotton mill named "the Bombay Spinning Mills" was set up on February 22, 1854. The Bombay Spinning Mills and Weaving Company was the first cotton mill established in Bombay on July 7, 1854, at Tardeo, South Bombay.
