Ireland, together with the United Kingdom and Denmark, entered the European Union (EU) on January 1, 1973. The country has also been engaged in formulating EU policy, notably in agriculture, the environment, and human rights. Overall, Ireland's EU entry has benefited its economy, society, and international stature.
