Commemorative stamp on Homo Aeserniensis

The important palaeontology site of La Pineta in the Isernia, which is 100 km to the north of Naples, was uncovered during road construction in 1978. The remains of human activity of about 700,000 years ago have been found at this site. The sources term these species as the Homo Erectus (Aeserniensis). The site covers around 3 hectares and is an important find from the Paleolithic period in Italy.Italy issued a commemorative stamp on Homo Aeserniensis. This multicoloured stamp, was issued on 6th February 1988 with an image of a man using a stone tool.
