The obverse of the coin features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, with the engraver's initials SB (Susanna Blunt) and the inscription "ELIZABETH II D • G • REGINA" and the face value of "1 DOLLAR" at the bottom.

The reverse of the coin features the country "CANADA" inscribed at the top, a maple leaf dividing the dates of the series, with "1988" on the left and "2023" on the right, and the engraver's initials MC (Marie Elaine Cusson) at the bottom right, while other details are at the base.
