Utkal Institution is a public university in the Odisha town of Bhubaneswar. The 17th-oldest university in India, its current campus is spread over 399.9 acres in the centre of Bhubaneswar. Dr Rajendra Prasad, the first President of India, laid the campus' foundation stone on January 15, 1958.

To commemorate 75th anniversary of the University, India post issued a postage stamp of Rs 5 value in 2018.

Utkal University is a teaching and research university. There are currently 27 post-graduate departments on the university campus for post-graduate study and research in science, humanities, business administration, social science, law, and commerce. The university has jurisdiction (affiliation) in 9 districts of Odisha.
