Silver Rupee of Princely State Alwar

Alwar was the Princely State between 1818 and 1947, during British rule in India. The nobles of Alwar State were the descendants of the Naruka branch of the Kachwaha dynasty. Alwar was one of the 19 princely states of the former Rajputana, which existed at the time of Indian Independence.Maharaja Mangal Singh issued this silver rupee during his rule. Mangal Singh was the 6th ruler of Princely State Alwar, who ruled this state between 1874 and 1892. During his rule, he issued coins in all three metals gold, silver and copper.
The obverse of this coin features the portrait of Victoria Empress to left. The reverse inscribed with the legend 'Maharao Raja Sawai Mangal Singh Bahadur” in Persian with AH Date 1877 within circle. .
