Commemorative stamp of C.D. Deshmukh

Sir Chintaman Dwarkanath Deshmukh was born on 14th January 1896. He was an Indian civil servant. In 1943, Deshmukh was the first Indian to be appointed the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India. He served in Union Cabinet (1950-1956) as the Finance Minister of India. Deshmukh was the founding member of the Governing Body of NCAER, the National Council of Applied Economic Research in New Delhi. Deshmukh worked at UGC as their chairman after he resigned from the Union Cabinet. Deshmukh also served as the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Delhi from 1962 to 1967. He was the President of the Indian Statistical Institute from 1945 to 1964 and founded India International Center in 1959. He was the chairman of the Indian Institute of Public Administration.
