Rugby is a team sport that originated in the first half of the 19th century.

Rugby is played by running with the ball in hand, between two teams of 15 players each, with an oval-shaped ball on a rectangular field called a pitch and has H-shaped goalposts on both sides.

Rugby is a popular sport around the globe, played by people of all ages, genders, and sizes and more than 6 million players worldwide, of whom 2.36 million were registered players in 2014. Rugby Union currently has 101 countries as full members and 18 associate members.

International matches started when the first match was played between Scotland and England at Raeburn Place in Edinburgh in 1871. The first Rugby World Cup was held in 1987. It is held every four years, and other international competitions are The Six Nations Championships in Europe and The Rugby Championship in the Southern Hemisphere.

The above-given stamp is a commemorative stamp of Rugby. This multicolour stamp has a face value of 1.85 euros. It was issued on 22nd August 2007 by Portugal.
