The great epic The Ramayana, written by the first poet in Sanskrit, Valmiki, is the first epic. Nannaya was the first poet to write in Telugu, and his first poem was a translation of Mahabharatnam. Nannaya is what Andhras refer to her as most lovingly and reverently.Nannaya served as Raja Narendra's court poet and family priest in addition to being the affluent ruler of the Vengi Kingdom in Andhra Desa from his capital city of Rajamahendravaram in Eastern Godavari districts. Among the 10 court dignitaries, he was first.
Nannaya was a Sage. He wished his people growth, consciousness, and enlightenment from the bottom of his heart. He had the guts and full faith in his abilities to translate the Mahabharata, also known as the Fifth Veda, into the language of his people without any prejudicial assumptions or whims.
Department of Posts issued a commemorative postage stamp of Telugu author Nannaya of the Eastern Chalukya dynasty.
