Commemorative Stamp of Omeo Kumar Das

On May 21, 1895, Loknayak Omeo Kumar Das, one of Assam's greatest heroes, was born in Tezpur. He was greatly affected by the works of Gopal Krishna Gokhale, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Surendra Nath Banerjee, and other national leaders throughout his time in high school and college, which drew him to the ideas of the Servants of India Society. From his school days, when he decided to dedicate himself to the cause of his country's liberation and the service of the people, he was quite active.

He actively took part in the battle for liberation and was one of the leaders of the Assamese National Movement. When Gandhiji began the Civil Disobedience Movement in 1930, Omeo Kumar Das organized the young in response to Gandhiji's demand. For his actions, he was repeatedly put in prison.
