Malta is the world's tenth-smallest country in the area and the fourth-most densely populated sovereign country. Malta became a British colony in 1813, serving as a ship's way station and headquarters for the British Mediterranean Fleet. The Malta Independence Act, was passed by the British parliament in 1964, giving Malta independence from the United Kingdom as the State of Malta, with Elizabeth II as its queen. In 1974, the country became a republic.On March 31, 1975, a commemorative stamp was issued. The stamp depicted the Swearing-in of the Prime Minister. The Republic of Malta Series stamps were printed on December 13, 1974, in the country of Malta. Famous People, Flags, Politicians, Politics, and Special Occasions are the themes. The size is 44.3 x 31.3 mm. It is a multicolour stamp. A Maltese cross of multiple types is on the watermark of the stamp. Perforation was 14 holes. The stamp was printed by offset lithography. Its face value is 1.30 Maltese cents.
