Commemorative Stamp of Govardhanram Tripathi

Govardhanram Madhavram Tripathi, born on October 20, 1855, in Nadiad, Gujarat, was a notable author of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries who wrote largely in Gujarati. He considered his childhood and the first few years of his life to be the happiest years of his life. Despite his ill health and financial troubles, he studied law after graduating in 1875 and obtained his LLB in 1883. During his legal career, he created a large number of literary works, many of which are now considered to be of the greatest quality.Shri Govardhanram Tripathi is well known for his four-volume novel Saraswatichandra, which was named one of the most widely-read works in Gujarati literature of all time. He also contributed articles and essays to the newspapers "Vaant" and "Samalochak," which were eventually published as books. He was chosen as the first president of the Gujarat Sahitya Parishad in 1915.
In Gujarat literature, the period from 1885 to 1915 is known as the Govardhanram-era. The Department of Posts honoured Govardhanram Madhavram Tripathi with a commemorative postage stamp in recognition of his contributions to Gujarati literature.
