Commemorative Stamp on Vidyapati

Vidyapati, also known as Maithili Kavi Kokil, was a Maithili poet and Sanskrit author. He was born in the hamlet of Bisfi in the Madhubani district of India's Mithila region.Vidyapati is also well-known for his poems on Lord Shiva, as well as songs written in the form of Nacharis and Maheshbanis to appease the Lord. Lord Shiva is claimed to have appeared to the poet in the form of a cowherd lad named "Ugna" after being pleased by his devotion and literary ability. "Ugnasthan" refers to the location where Ugna first emerged.
Department of Posts issued a commemorative stamp on "Maithili Kavi Kokil" Vidyapati on 26th December 2016 as a part of the Personality series of Bihar.
