Commemorative Stamp of Ramanujacharya
2022-12-22 Thu
Ramanujacharya was a Hindu philosopher, mentor, and social reformer from India. He is regarded as one of the most influential exponents of Hinduism's Sri Vaishnavism school. His philosophical underpinnings for devotionals influenced the Bhakti movement.Ramanuja was born into a Tamil Brahmin family in the Chola Empire hamlet of Sriperumbudur, near present-day Chennai. His Vaishnava disciples published hagiographies, some of which were written centuries after his death and are believed to be accurate by the tradition.
According to scholars and philosophers, Ramanujacharya's appearance in this world is analogous to the rising sun, dispelling the darkness of ignorance and allowing the lotus of knowledge, virtue, and righteousness to grow. On the occasion of Ramanujacharya's 1000th birth anniversary, the Department of Posts has released a commemorative postage stamp on 1st May 2017.
