Commemorative Stamp of Lala Deen Dayal

Raja Lala Deen Dayal was born 1844. He was an Indian photographer and had worked as a head estimator and draughtsman in Indore in 1866. Later, he took up photography; MaharajaTukoji Rao II was his first patron in Indore. MaharajaTukoji Rao II introduced Dayal to Sir Henry Daly, who was the agent to the Governor General for India. He encouraged Dayal’s work and encouraged him to set up his studio. He started his career in the 1870s as a commissioned photographer, setting up his studio in Indore, Mumbai and Hyderabad. Mahbub Ali Khan, the sixth Nizam of Hyderabad, appointed him as the court photographer. Asif Jah VI awarded him with the title Raja Bahadur Musavir Jung Bahadur. In 1885 he was appointed as the photographer of the Viceroy of India.The above commemorative stamp was issued to commemorate Death Centenary stamp of Lala Deen Dayal. This multicolour stamp was issued on 11th November 2006, and the face value of this stamp is 5 Indian rupees. The stamp features the portrait of Lala Deen Dayal in the centre, his name in the bottom right corner and the face value in the bottom left corner. Raja Lala Deen Dayal received Royal Warrant from Queen Victoria in 1987 and he died in July 1906
