The Central Bank of Barbados issued this Barbadian 1 dollar in 1973, depicting Samuel Jackman Prescod as a part of the Barbadian Dollar banknotes series. They were withdrawn from circulation in 1980.
The front side of this banknote features the potrait of Samuel Jackman Prescod to the right side of note. Samuel Jackman Prescod was first person of African descent to be elected to the Parliament of Barbados in 1843. He is one of the important figure of Barbados, the parliament of Barbados authorised him with the title ‘The Right Excellent'. On April 28, 1998, he passed 'National Heros Act' in the parliament of Barbados, accroding to which there are 10 national heroes of Barbados, all of whom are honoured with title 'The Right Excellent'.
