Ondiveeran Pagadai was the pioneer who revolted against the rule of the British East India Company in Tamil Nadu. He led the revolt as a commander in chief of the arunthathiyar community and is hailed as a hero by the same; till today.
The immense pressure from the Arunthathiyars led the Government of Tamil Nadu to build a memorial of him in the Tirunelveli district. After many public protests from the community to build his monument, a foundation stone was laid in 2011.
A commemorative postal stamp for freedom fighter Ondiveeran was authorized by Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and was released on 20th august 2022.
