Chittaranjan Das, popularly known as Deshbandhu, was an Indian freedom fighter, political activist and lawyer. His main dream was swaraj, or self-rule, for India, so he founded Swaraj Party in Bengal during the British colonial rule in India.Chittaranjan Das played an active role in the non-cooperation movement from 1919 to 1922. It was he who started the boycott of British or western dresses. He served as mayor of the Calcutta Corporation. He also supervised the Gaya round of the Indian National Congress.
Chittaranjan Das completed his Barrister degree in England. He maintained a close relationship with Bipin Chandrapal and Aurobindo Ghosh and helped them publish the Bande Mataram.
