Smoking is harmful to every organ of the body. It reduces the lifespan of the human body. The smoking substance contains nicotine which reacts brain instantaneously. But it also wears off and craves more. It results in habit-forming. Therefore, people find it difficult to quit. The history of smoking can be traced back to 5000 BC. Ancient civilisations such as Babylonians, Indians and Chinese burnt incense. Many cults consumed tobacco and hallucinogenic drugs to achieve trances and to come into contact with the spirit world. Sub- Saharan Africans discovered Cannabis smoking. The effects of smoking on the body are mood stimulation, early menopause, anxiety & irritability, poor vision, smelly hair, poor sense of smell and taste, unhealthy teeth, bronchitis, lung cancer, persistent coughing, constricted blood vessels, heart disease, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, high cholesterol, loss of appetite, low immune system, yellow fingers, cervical cancer, infertility, wrinkly skin, erectile dysfunction, problems during pregnancy and newborns, blood clotting, cancer connection and increased risk of blood cancer.
