Commemorative Stamp on Safeguard Monuments of Nubie

The commemorative stamp was issued by Algeria in 1964, to commemorate the Safeguard of the Monuments of Nubie.Nubia is a geographic region in the south of Egypt and north Sudan. This monument is located on the shores of Lake Nasser in the far south of Egypt. These sites include temples from 11 separate site between the Sanctuary of Isis at Philae (below the Aswan dam site) and the great Temple of Ramses II at Abu Simbel, 280 km to the south.
The monuments of Nubie include the magnificent monuments such as Temples of Ramses II at Abu Simbel and the Sanctuary of Isis at Philae. These monuments were saved from the rising waters of the Nile. UNESCO launched an international safeguarding campaign to save monuments in Nubia from being flooded by the waters of Lake Nasser from 1960 to 1980.
