Remembering Music Legend Kishore Kumar

Kishore Kumar was a man of many talents, singer, actor, lyricist, and director. He was one of the greatest and most dynamic singers in Indian music history. Kishore Kumar was born Abhas Kumar Ganguly, but he changed his name after joining the film industry. His elder brother was a famous actor. He also tried his hands at acting, but he was more interested in singing. According to his brother, Ashok Kumar, he was as successful as a singer because his "voice hits the mike, straight, at its most sensitive point".

Apart from Hindi, he also sang a song in Indian languages, including Bengali, Marathi, Assamese, Gujarati, Kannada, Bhojpuri, Malayalam, Odia, and Urdu. He won 8 Filmfare awards for best playback singer; he holds the record for winning the most Filmfare Awards in that category. In 1985, he was honored with Lata Mangeshkar Award by the government of Madhya Pradesh.

Kishore Kumar died on 13 October 1987, on the birthday of his elder brother Ashok Kumar.
