Pandit Shrilal Shukla was a Hindi writer and notable. He served the State Government of Uttar Pradesh as an IAS officer.

Pandit Shirlal Shukla was an Indian writer who wrote more than 25 books. Some of this great work includes Raag Darbari, Makaan, Sooni Ghaati Ka Sooraj, Pehla Padaav and Bisrampur Ka Sant.

Pandit Shrilal Shukla highlighted on falling moral values of Indian society through his novels. In a satirical manner, he also exposed negative aspects of life in rural and urban India. His best-known work Raag Darbari was translated into English and 15 Indian languages.

Pandit Shrilal Shukla is honored with several awards. Some of the awards he received are as follows. In 1969 he received his first major award Sahitya Akademi Award for his novel Raag Darbari. In 1999, he received the Vyas Samman award 1999 for the novel Bisrampur ka Sant. In 2008, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan by the President of India for his contribution to Indian literature and culture. In 2011, he was honored with Jnanpith Award, the highest Indian literary award.
