Kamdukuri Veerasalingam was the father of the Telugu Renaissance movement. He was a social reformer and writer from the Madras Presidency. He encouraged women's education and the remarriage of widows in India and abolished child marriage and the dowry system.

Kamdukuri Veerasalingam was born on April 16, 1848, in an orthodox Brahmin family in Andhra Pradesh. He lost his father when he was just four years old and rose by his paternal uncle.

Some of his great works include Rajasekhara Charitra (the first Telugu novel), Brahma Vivaham (play), Kanyasulkam, Gopala Satakamu, and Abhagyopakhyanamu (a satire on society).
