The Battle of Svolder is one of the greatest naval battles of the Viking era, fought in September 999 or 1000 in the western Baltic Sea; between King Olaf Tryggvason of Norway and an alliance of his enemies. The Battle of Svolder took place to unite Norway into a single independent state and to spread Christianity throughout Scandinavia.As a result, King Olaf Tryggvason created several enemies throughout the Viking-dominated regions of northern Europe. King of Denmark and Sweden capture King Olaf Tryggvason in their trap. King Olaf Tryggvason's 11 ships were quickly defeated by an overwhelming larger fleet of 70 ships of the King of Denmark and Sweden. King Olaf was thrown into the sea after his ships got captured.
