Kuladhor Chaliha Commemorative Stamp

Kuladhor Chaliha was a freedom fighter and prominent leader of Assam from the Indian National Congress. He was one of the elected members of the 1934 Indian general election from Assam state and also the first president of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee. He was also the first speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly from March 1952 to June 1957.

Kuladhor Chaliha joined Congress under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi, after the massacre at Jallianwala Bagh in 1919. In 1920, he was elected the first President of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee. In 1921, he was convicted and jailed for one year. He was one of the pioneers of Congress Leaders of Assam.

The Indian Government issued this commemorative stamp on Kuladhor Chaliha in 1988 to commemorate him and his work.
