The Central Bank of Egypt issued these 25 Piastres banknotes in 1967. This banknote features the Great Sphinx of Giza on the front side of the banknote. The bankside of this banknote depicts 'Coat of Arms, this banknote is now withdrawn from circulation.
The sphinx is a mythological creation of a lion's body and a human head. It is considered an important image in Egyptian and Greek art and legend. It is the oldest and most instantly recognizable statue associated with ancient Egypt and among the most famous in the world. Ancient Egyptians of the Old Kingdom created this structure during the reign of Khafre.
