These banknotes are part of the current Nigerian Naira banknotes series. The Central Bank of Nigeria started issuing these 500 Nigerian Naira banknotes in 2001. The Central Bank of Nigeria issued these banknotes in nine different denominations.
Nnamdi Benjamin Azikiwe served as the president of Nigeria between 1963 and 1966. He is considered the "father of Nigerian Nationalism".
The front side of this banknote depicts Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, first President of Nigeria, wearing a pillbox hat. The reverse side of this banknote depicts the text “Central Bank of Nigeria” and “Five Hundred Naira”. Nigeria is Africa’s largest oil-producing country.
