The Kadambas of Goa was a dynasty during the Late Classical period on the Indian subcontinent, that ruled Goa from the 10th to the 14th century CE. They took over the territories of the Shilaharas and ruled them at first from Chandor, later making Gopakapattana their capital.

The Kadambas of Goa enjoyed this period of independence for over 250 years, during which they issued a handsome series of gold coins which are known as the Gold Gadyana. Shown above is a gold coin issued by King Jayakeshi Deva.

Inscribed in Kannada and Devanagari, this Gold Gadyana depicts a lion standing with raised forepaw on the obverse facing left along with the Cyclical year ‘SHRIMUKHA’ inscribed in Kannada in front of the lion, crescent, and sun symbols above. The reverse depicts Devanagari legend Sri Sapta Kotisha Labdhavara Vira Jayakeshi Deva Malavara Mari inscribed in five lines.
