2022-07-26 Tue
Narayana Guru was a philosopher, spiritual leader, and social reformer in India. He carried out his reform movement against injustice in the caste-ridden society of Kerala to promote spiritual enlightenment and social equality. He believed that all people are equal and thus belong to only one caste, the caste of humankind. He gave the famous slogan “One Caste, One Religion, One God for All” (OruJathi, OruMatham, OruDaivam, Manushyanu).Narayana Guru built a temple in 1988, dedicated to Lord Shiva at Aruvippuram, which was against the caste-based restrictions of the time. He also founded a number of schools and temples that were open to people of all castes.
The Government of India issued this commemorative stamp in 1967 to commemorate him and his work.
