Chandragupta Maurya Commemorative Stamp

Chandragupta Maurya was an Indian Emperor who founded the Mauryan Empire and was the grandfather of the great Mauryan Emperor Ashoka. Chandragupta Maurya was brave and charismatic—a born leader; he along with his mentor Chanakya was responsible for bringing an end to the Nanda Empire.Chandragupta Maurya expanded across much of India into modern-day Pakistan. Chandragupta Maurya is credited for bringing small fragmented kingdoms of the country and combining them into a single large empire.
He did the battle with Alexander the Great and prevented the Macedonian king from conquering the far side of the Ganges.
The Government of India issued this commemorative stamp in 2001 to commemorate him.
