Mehr-un-Nissa is popularly known as Nur Jahan. She is best known for her romance with the 17th-century emperor Jahangir. Nur Jahan was the twentieth wife of the Mughal emperor Jahangir; she is considered the real power behind the throne for much of her husband's reign. The role of her rise to power and prominence is unique and noteworthy.

Emperor Jahangir was addicted to alcohol, and often misses the court proceedings; this made it easier for Nur Jahan to assert her authority.
