2016-07-13 Wed
Two new 1-kilo “Maple Leaf Forever” coins have been issued by the Royal Canadian Mint, one in silver and the other in gold. The reverse of the coins feature the colourful maple leaf emblem each. It is the first time that the Royal Canadian Mint issued a gold coin with colours. The maple leaf is a symbol for Canadian culture. In autumn, the leaves turn orange, red, and yellow transforming the entire landscape into a spectacular sight. The maple leaf signifies nature’s beauty throughout the seasons.
Both coins feature the engraved depiction of a maple leaf in full colour. The colours used are a mix of red, yellow, orange, and green; and the leaf appears on the bark of a fallen tree with a natural rough texture. The silver coin has some primary design elements with selective gold plating. The obverse features the common portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.
The coins come in a special wooden box and can be purchased at RCB dealers.
