Vasco da Gama was a Portuguese explorer and the first European to reach India by sea. He was the first person to link Asia and Europe by ocean route. He connected the Atlantic and Indian oceans, opening the sea route from Europe to the East.
Vasco da Gama was born in July 1460 into a noble family. In 1497 he was appointed to command an expedition equipped by the Portuguese government to find maritime to the East. He was commissioned by the Portuguese king to find a maritime route to the East. His Voyages to India has proven to be one of the instrumental movements in the history of navigation.
