The Bank of Lithuania issued this 500 Litu banknote in 2000. This 500 Litu banknote was withdrawn from circulation in 2014. This 500 Litu banknote was the highest denomination of paper money before the introduction of the Euro in Lithuania in 2014.
The obverse side of this banknote depicts the portrait of Lithuanian physician and poet Vincas Kurdika with the National Coat of Arms on the red-orange colored 500 Litu banknote. Vincas Kurdika is considered a national hero of Lithuania. The reverse side of this banknote depicts a view with loops of the river Nemunas, along with the Lithuanian Liberty Bell, which contains the engraved National Coat of Arms.
