Coin Celebrates England’s Historic Football World Cup

Brand new commemorative coins celebrating England’s Football World Cup victory over West Germany in 1966 was released by the Treasury of Alderney. England drew their first Group match with Uruguay 0-0 and then won the next match with Mexico 2-0. In the round of 16, they played France and won 2-0 as well. England entered the quaterfinals to face Argentina which they won 1-0. Then it faced the first-time qualifiers, Portugal in the semifinals.Finally England lifted the Word Cup for the first time ever after it defeated West Germany. Geoff Hurst scored a hat-trick in the finals and remains the only player to do that in a final world cup game. The final score line was 4-2 England. Captain Bobby Moore received the trophy from the Queen.
The reverse depicts the Jules Rimet Trophy and the obverse features the common Queen Elizabeth II, portrait and the year of issue.
A Brilliant Uncirculated ‘mint condition’ version was also struck to raise money for the Bobby Moore Foundation. It was used as the toss-coin for the Euro 216 game between England and Portugal.
