Kumaran Asan was a Social reformer, philosopher, and poet of Malayalam literature. He is responsible for initiating a revolution in Malayalam poems in the first quarter of the 20th century. His poems have a deep moral and spiritual evidence in Asian poetry.

Kumaran Asan was one of the triumvirate poets of modern Malayalam, along with Vallathol Narayana Menon and Ulloor S. Parameswara Iyer. He was a follower of Sree Narayana Guru, so he was also involved in activities of Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana Yogam (SNDP) and became its secretary in 1904. He also founded Vivekodayam, a literary journal in Malayalam, and assumed its editorship.

This commemorative stamp was issued in 1973 to commemorate him and his work.
