Shiv Pradas Gupta was a philanthropist, a leader of the Indian Freedom Movement, and the founder of the Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth. He was born to a wealthy industrialist and "Jamindar" family, but he devoted his life to assisting and giving financial aid to various freedom struggle movements.Shiv Prasad Gupta was closely associated with national leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Mahamana Madan Mohan Malviya, and many other national leaders. Shiv Prasad Gupta established a Kashi Vidhyapeeth in Varanasi. He is also credited to established 'Bharat Mata Mandir' a national monument of India. He was also associated with Indian National Congress as its treasurer for many years.
